Happy feeling ginger detox lemonade

Hey!

I drink a lot of tea but as winter turns to spring I like to branch out a bit and have something cold that is equally satisfying and nutritious. While I try and drink water as much as possible, sometimes I just don’t fancy it and the only low cal options are cold tea (meh), squash – which isn’t that healthy or Pepsi Max which recently I have gone off because it’s just too sweet and chemically and which also basically rots you from the inside.

I’m a fan of fruit juice in water but I never drink it enough to warrant buying a whole bottle and it still does have a small amount of calories and sugar. I’ve been looking for something good for me that’s tastier than water and I’ve settled on this super yummy and super easy recipe for a detox lemonade.

I could eat lemons like I eat apples and oranges, I crave the refreshing sour taste all the time so this drink is perfect for me. If you’re not a super sour lemon juice fan you can always add a bit of sweetener or honey or something to take the edge off a bit.

What I love about this lemonade is it takes 2 minutes to make and you can store these ingredients in the back of the cupboard, as long as you have a lemon or some lemon juice you’re good to go.

The two main ingredients of this lemonade, lemons and ginger, both have amazing properties that are really good for you.

Lemon

  • Aids digestion
  • Kick-starts metabolism
  • Detoxifies the body

  • Good source of vitamin C
  • Helps lift your mood

Ginger

  • Soothes nausea
  • Reduces muscle pain
  • Lowers blood sugar
  • Aids digestion
  • Soothes menstrual pain
  • Lowers cholesterol
  • Improves brain function

Recipe: Detox ginger lemonade – makes one large glass

Ingredients

  • The juice of half a lemon
  • 1 inch of fresh ginger, sliced
  • Fresh water
  • Sweetener or honey, to taste

Method

Boil the kettle and chop your ginger.

Pour a small amount of hot water into the bottom of your cup. Add the juice of half a lemon and the ginger. If you are adding honey, add this now and mix until it dissolves.

Fill the rest of the cup up with cold water. Ice is optional!
